Derm Life: My Personal Battle With Dry Skin
/
I don't know how long I had dry skin for but it has been such a pain to deal with. I would hate getting out of the shower, moisturizing my face, then 3 hours later, the flakes start falling again. I would spend countless hours online researching what buy and use but nothing helped. I was wasting money on things that would only helped for a moment. I became embarrassed and couldn't bare to have people come too close for my face.
Once I started working in Dermatology, I began to really learn about what the skin needs in order for it to flourish. I started to ask a lot of questions and of course, tried samples. One of the gals I work with is an aesthetician and her name is Amy Morgan. (Her info will be at the end of this piece.) Not only does she work at the clinic but she also has her own studio as well. She recommended me to try something called DermaPlaning. At first I was skeptical but then I started reading about and here are some of the things that I found out about it:
- It's a manual exfoliation
- Creates smooth skin
- Immediately diminishes the appearance of fine lines & wrinkles
- Creates healthier, more radiant appearance
- Increase absorption of topical products
After reading about it, I was down to try it. I was open to anything at this point to help me with this problem. The service takes a good 45-60 minutes and it feels amazing. That feeling of the blade gliding across your face sounds like it would be fun but it was actually very relaxing. Amy was great in helping me prep for this, She was very professional and asked about my skin concerns and what my experiences were trying certain products. She listened and took into account things that may irritate my skin and made sure whatever she using was gentle enough for me, Once she finished, She put a hydrating mask on my face for a few minutes and after it was removed, my face felt supple and soft. I definitely saw a difference.
After seeing Amy, I figured I would be fine for a couple of weeks but I still noticed after about a week, my skin was just a little bit flaky. I figured it may be just my skin shedding but I still needed reassurance. At this point, I finally decided to see a dermatologist at my office. I had some concerns about some age spots on my face but I also wanted to address my dry skin as well. When Dr. Kim Abson looked over my face, she noticed something interesting. She saw that the dryness from my face was being caused by a little rash. Holy cow! That was the last thing on my mind. A rash?! A little part of me died inside but she recommended me to try some cortisone cream. She also reassured me that it was not a huge deal.
I took her word and started using the cream as instructed and started to see a difference. My redness slowly went away and the dryness was manageable. To help with this treatment, I wanted to buy a moisturizer which would help slowly get this problem fixed. We just received a new product from Elta MD Skincare called Barrier Renewal Complex. One of my other co-workers told me that there's an ingredient that would help me out and i figured, why not try it.
I used this product for 2 days and ladies and gentlemen, I have finally found my saving grace. This cream is AMAZING and I recommend it anyone. Just a little pump and it goes a long way. I have noticed my skin is not dry at all, my skin looks more dewy and hydrated.
After many years of struggling with this issue, I thought I would have to live with this forever. I am so happy that I have now found my path to healthier, more beautiful skin.
